Working academically with a text means annotating, excerpting and commenting, jobs for a document, not a reader app. This conversion rebuilds an EPUB's content as a DOCX: chapters under native heading styles, paragraphs as editable text, emphasis preserved. Word's commenting and citation tooling then applies to the whole work. Rights to the text are the reader's own affair; the conversion itself is mechanical and runs entirely in the browser.
Questions
Does Word handle a whole book gracefully?
Yes with styles applied, which they are: navigation pane by chapter, manageable scrolling, functional search.
Is formatting from the book preserved?
Reading-relevant formatting, emphasis, headings, paragraphs, is; book design is deliberately not.
DRM titles?
Refused with a clear message; only unprotected files convert.
