JPG → PNG, for pixels that must stop moving
A lossless container for further editing. Fair warning: photos get big, and no JPG artifacts are healed.

- SizePhotos grow several-fold
- ForEditing chains, PNG-only tools
Turning a JPG into a PNG freezes it: from that point, edits and saves lose nothing further. That matters for images entering repeated editing, for assets checked into version control, and for tools that demand PNG input. What it does not do is repair the past; compression artifacts the JPG already has are preserved faithfully. Expect photographs to grow several-fold, since lossless compression finds little to squeeze in camera noise.
Questions
Will PNG make my JPG look better?
No. It prevents future degradation; it cannot undo past compression. The image looks identical, and stays that way through edits.
When is this conversion genuinely useful?
Before repeated editing sessions, for archival of edited results, and for software that accepts only PNG.
Why did my file get five times bigger?
Lossless compression cannot squeeze photographic noise the way JPG's lossy math can. Graphics compress well; photos do not.
