Projects with open-format policies, game engines expecting OGG assets, and Linux-centric setups sometimes cannot take an M4A. This page re-encodes the AAC audio as Opus in an OGG container, locally. Because both formats are lossy, a second generation of loss is baked in; Opus is efficient enough that at 128 kbps the practical damage from decent source stays small. From lossless source the result would be better still, if you have one.

Half the size and an open container; a small quality tax for coming from lossy source.

Questions

Why would an engine want OGG over M4A?

Licensing history and toolchain defaults. Open-source engines and pipelines adopted OGG early and many still treat it as the native choice.

How bad is lossy-to-lossy here?

From a 256 kbps M4A to 128 kbps Opus, most content survives without audible complaint. Critical audio deserves a lossless source instead.

Can I raise the Opus bitrate?

Yes, up to 192 kbps under More options, which leaves more headroom over the inherited AAC artifacts.

Local?

Entirely. No audio leaves your browser.
