M4A → WAV, in your browser
Plain PCM out of an AAC file, for the tool in your chain that wants WAV and nothing else.
Runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.
- QualitySame as the M4A; nothing returns
- Typical sizeAround 8 to 10 times larger
- Format16-bit PCM, source sample rate
- ForTools that only accept WAV
Voice memos, iTunes rips and phone recordings arrive as M4A, and every so often a tool refuses them: a transcription program, an old editor, a hardware sampler, a court system that specifies WAV. This page decodes the AAC audio once and writes a standard 16-bit WAV at the recording's own sample rate. What the AAC encoder discarded when the M4A was made stays gone; the WAV is exactly as good as the M4A, in a wrapper everything accepts.
Questions
Will the WAV sound better than the M4A?
No. Decoding cannot restore what AAC compression removed. The WAV is a faithful rendering of the M4A as it sounds now.
Why is the WAV so much bigger?
WAV stores every sample uncompressed. The M4A stored a compact description of the same sound; unpacking it to PCM multiplies the bytes, not the quality.
Does this work with voice memos from an iPhone?
Yes. iPhone voice memos are M4A files and convert directly. Trim points under More options let you cut the ends first.
Is the recording uploaded?
No. The decoding runs in your browser and the WAV is saved to your disk. Nothing is transmitted.
